Regional Leaders Discuss Transport Security
The GCC countries’ transport ministers convened an extraordinary meeting through videoconference to discuss existing developments pertaining to transport networks and supply chains. The meeting united the heads of land, sea, and air transport of the 6 member nations of the GCC. Ministers accepted some proposals intended to enhance transport resilience and supply chain continuity:
- Activating “green lanes” and prioritising logistic routes for essential goods.
- Facilitating the movement of trucks, buses, and taxis across GCC member states.
- Boosting coordination between land border crossings, ports, and customs authorities.
- Streamlining procedures at ports, including alternative ports outside critical chokepoints.

The officials stressed that transport systems are very crucial in maintaining economic stability and the unremitting supply of strategic commodities like food, medicine, and fuel. It was explained that building better transport infrastructure and collaboration is the key to being able to cope with the current difficulties and improve the readiness of the region to effectively react to the disruption.
