Oman Air Suspends Flights to Nine Cities Amid Regional Tensions

Flight Cancellations Announced

On 16 March 2026, Oman’s national airline declared that it was suspending flights to 9 destinations abroad. The airline assured that the move was made as a precaution because of the tensions and the military activities that have been increasing in the Middle East.

The move comes during a period of regional instability linked to the ongoing war between Iran, Israel and the United States. Security concerns have been a major issue for aviation authorities and airlines in the region, as the security issues impact the air travel routes.

Destinations Affected

The affected routes entail flights between Muscat and other major cities in the region. Some of the destinations that have been affected include:

  • Amman
  • Dubai
  • Manama
  • Doha
  • Dammam
  • Kuwait City
  • Baghdad
  • Khasab
  • Copenhagen

This also affected the Copenhagen route since the flight line of the normal flight is through Iraqi airspace, which has been experiencing hitches during the ongoing war.

Customers with reservations in these flights were urged to contact the company to get updated re-booking facilities and alternative travel plans.

Safety Measures and Airline Response

According to the airline authorities, the cancellations were implemented to safeguard the passengers and the crews until the regional security situation can be determined. The nature of the airspace restrictions and the dynamism in the airspace have rendered certain routes unsafe or hard to operate.

Oman Air has numerous other international flights, even with these suspensions. The airline has also tried to help affected passengers and manage travel disruptions caused by sudden schedule changes.

Greater Impact on Middle East Aviation

The current conflict has posed significant difficulties for airlines that are working in the Middle East. Some of the countries in the region have temporarily shut or banned airspace over their territories because of security risks.

This has led to the cancellation, delay, or rerouting of flights by the airlines. Aviation analysts indicate that this may persist until the security environment in the region is more secure.

Ongoing Situation

The passengers in the region are also being advised to keep updating on the flights regularly due to the presence of changes in the schedules at short notice, with the progress of the war. The airlines and aviation authorities are keeping an eye on the situation and will rearrange the operations when the conditions improve, and it will be safe to resume the normal flight routes.
