Iran Delegation Visits Pakistan to hold US talks as Lebanon Issue expands.
An Iranian delegation has arrived in Pakistan to take part in important peace talks with the United States. Such negotiations are coming at a crucial moment in time as the tension in the Middle East is still very high.
The delegation comprising the top Iranian leaders has already arrived in Islamabad and negotiations are likely to start in the near future. These talks are being hosted in Pakistan after it assisted in the amusing of a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran.
Meanwhile, there is another significant development that is occurring. Lebanon and Israel also are likely to start negotiations regarding a possible ceasefire, which will further strain the situation.
Peace Talks Get Started, Under International Pressure.
The US-Iran negotiations in Pakistan are highly significant to the peace in the region and the world in general. Both country leaders should negotiate on how to transform the temporary ceasefire into a lasting agreement.
Pakistan has prepared well to these meetings. There has been an increase in security in the city of Islamabad and authorities are making efforts to get the negotiations going smoothly.
The key objectives of the negotiations are:
Maintaining the ceasefire alive.
Lessening the tensions in the Middle East.
Reverend reopening of Strait of Hormuz to transport oil.
Discovering answers to political problems that are old.
But it is not that straight forward. Iran has indicated that negotiations can only commence after some conditions are fulfilled which includes Lebanon and economic sanctions.
This indicates that prior to the commencement of the negotiations, both parties are seriously in disagreement.
The Lebanon War is cause of further tension.
One of the biggest challenges is the situation in Lebanon. The battle between Israel and Hezbollah continues to this day, despite the US-Iran ceasefire.
Iran thinks that Lebanon should be included in the ceasefire and the views of the US and Israel are different. The peace talks are getting complicated due to this disagreement.
Meanwhile, Lebanon and Israel will be supposed to discuss a potential ceasefire on their own.
Because of this:
The truce is still weak.
Trust between countries is low
Risk of new conflict is still high
Analysts believe that the Lebanon problem will have an impact on the success of US-Iran negotiations unless the problem is resolved.
